I just love autumn.  Having said that when I think about it I also love winter and spring.  Travelled through the Adelaide hills yesterday to do another wedding at the charming Auchendarroch House and all was beautiful and well with the world.  The golden autumn leaves made their colourful blanket on the dewy grass, the sun was shining but had a crispness in the air that only comes with the close of autumn. Justin and Renae took their chances with an outdoor ceremony and were rewarded with a kiss of sun in the gorgeous gardens of Auchendarroch. One of the perfect features about this stately manor is a wonderful Plan B.  Michelle the function coordinator keeps a close eye on the weather and has her staff prepared to move the ceremony into one of the many stately rooms in the event of rain.

Michelle has been at Auchendarroch since she left school (many years agoJ) and is one of those rare people that are totally dedicated to her work. I am privileged to see at function centres behind the scenes, things that most people don’t get to see. The preparation, the small details that may seem insignificant, but if they are not done can make a huge difference to the day. Checking the sound system for the ceremony music, providing a room for the bride and groom to chill in, Michelle not relaxing until she knows that all is well and everything has gone according to plan, but also being there to help when things don’t.

Auchendarroch House in the Adelaide Hills has an enchanting traditional charm. The magnificent manor consists of many function rooms that are newly and elaborately decorated. From the high ceilings, lavish curtains, significant wall papers and fireplaces, everything is meticulously designed and maintained. The Wallis family has faithfully restored this magnificent building to its former glory reflecting the beauty and grandeur of times past. It is a perfect backdrop for wedding receptions and of course amazing photo opportunities.

Auchendarroch has a number of rooms to accomodate different size weddings. One of the smaller rooms is the Oakfield and Dining room that can accomodate 20 -40 guests. The Ballroom has a beautiful bay window, fireplace and high ceilings that comfortably seats 60 guests.  Fireplaces are a perfect decorating feature that can display gorgeous bowls of spring flowers or summer roses and the added ambience of flickering candlelight. Next to it is the Joanna’s room that can be used for small private functions.

The largest room at Auchendarroch House is the Robert Charles Room that can seat 140 guests. This room is beautiful and combines the past and the present perfectly. It has huge glass sliding doors that open to the front lawn, Swarovski crystal is a stunning feature together with handmade iron vines surrounding the bar.

Adjoined to this room is the Bar Smith Billiard Room with capacity of up to 20 guests. I love, love, love this room and feel like I am coming home every time I am there.  There are three amazing crystal chandeliers that are breathtaking.  If I could keep my guest list to 20 I would want my next big O birthday party there.

Auchendarroch House at Mt. Barker, really is a remarkable house with so much to offer. If you are looking for a wedding venue in the Adelaide Hills I know Michelle would be happy to answer any questions about this stunning venue.
